[contrib] Cleanup and Migrate

Volunteers are need to go through the forum and identify anything Textpattern documentation-related and have it moved to the WIKI, or perhaps flagged to be put in the FAQ. That includes stickies, the How-tos and Examples forum, and any other golden threads that have been buried.

Anything that is forum-specific doesn’t get moved to the WIKI (such as how to post a tag trace), but to the FAQ (it’s got it’s own category). I can do that, but I need some assistance identifying all the relevant threads. The greater work that needs to be done, though, the thing that has a higher priority, is getting all the stuff that belongs in the wiki, moved there.

You can collaborate with others to find out where in the WIKI something should go, if you’re not sure. If you don’t already have a WIKI account, contact Patrick and he’ll get you setup.

Some examples:

Please post here any other candidates for the FAQ, and also leave a note here when you’ve finished migrating anything to the wiki.

Don’t feel you have to take on loads of new work, every little bit helps immensely and would be greatly appreciated.

The purpose of all this is to reduce all these stickies, keep the important info easy to find, and let the forum be what it is supposed to be for: user support.

Re: [contrib] Cleanup and Migrate

This sounds like a very good idea.

Since we have to post in this thread if we find something, how about a link like Nominate topic for the Wiki or FAQ above the Quick post, next to Subscribe to this topic.

I like the idea of this but what does it actually mean? How do you actually envisage it? If it would just be with posts then it might end up people just posting endlessly just to nominate.

Re: [contrib] Cleanup and Migrate

I’ve clarified my meaning above:

Please post here any other candidates for the FAQ, and also leave a note here when you’ve finished migrating anything to the wiki.

i.e: list here for stuff for me to do, and stuff that you’ve already moved to the wiki, so that I can move the forum thread into retirement ;)

Re: [contrib] Cleanup and Migrate

Here are some, that I think shouldn’t get lost. I post these here as candidates for the WIKI now:

The Godbit templates That one is gone, unfortunately.
Podcasting solution done.
A list of tags
Archive lists by month

Those are the most obvious, however some of them are extremely long.

Saccade’s timehandling Thesis

(ok that one is in German and no code samples or such, but I cold stick that somewhere on the German extra pages)

e-commerce
multiple Sites off one install
Article google map

If anyone else agrees, I can port these over to the WIKI.
Feel free to object (before I port this over).

Re: [contrib] Cleanup and Migrate

I have several articles in my Textpattern section if anyone wants to link to them or I’m quite happy for the content to be copied across to the wiki.

Not sure what you meant by this but this is still in the forum: http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=14241

The linked article has been update for 4.0.4

Yes, thanks Niteowl, I’ve noticed, just didn’t update this trread yet. I’m trying to sort some stuff out first.

@thanks, stew.

I’ll look into that soon.
