CSS Font-Family Best Practices?

So I’m trying to find out what are the best practices and web standards for fonts. I want my title to remain text, but what fonts can I choose from. What fonts are supported by most browsers? Can anyone point to some information regarding this?

Also note that page says “These figures are calculated per platform.”

In other words, don’t look at that chart and think 96% of PC’s have Monaco. There are also individual lists per platform, Windows and Mac

Re: CSS Font-Family Best Practices?

I have found the the following provide the most consistant appearance across browsers/platforms.

Serif . . . font-family: Georgia, “Times New Roman”, Courier, serif;
Sans Serif . . . font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;

As always, YMMV
