Database trouble after upgrading to 20060808

This may be miscategorized, but it happened after installing the 4.0.4 beta so I’ve put it here for now. I’ve been running the 20060808 release posted on the weblog for a while now with no problems at all (which is why I’m not sure whether this is a problem specifically related to the beta). This morning I noticed that my articles were no longer showing up, and I couldn’t see my /textpattern directory (getting the error “503 Service Unavailable – DB-Connect was succesful, but the textpattern-table was not found.”

I logged into phpMyAdmin, when I attempted to look at the textpattern table, I got the error “#1016 – Can’t open file: ‘textpattern.MYI’ (errno: 145).” I googled that phrase and found previous posts here and here that dealt with similar, but not identical, issues.

I’ve sent in a support ticket to TextDrive asking for a bit of assistance with saving my ship, but I thought it may be wise to bring the issue up here in, in case it might have been a problem specific to the beta. I’d be happy to do anything I can to help discern that, if possible.

…saving my ship…

If this was a possibility, you should have not installed development software, especially without making a backup.

Have you tried repairing the table (via phpMyAdmin or Rob’s plugin)?

Re: Database trouble after upgrading to 20060808

Sorry, perhaps I wasn’t clear. I wasn’t asking for help — TextDrive was able to repair the table for me and the problem’s fixed. I just thought it might be the responsible move, since I was using development software, to report a problem I had in using it. My apologies if that’s not the case.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification.

I can only guess that it’s not due to the unofficial beta, since the problem didn’t show up for a while, though it may be possible. Off-hand I can’t think of anything that would cause that to happen later.

Your intentions were good, thanks. However it’s not possible that php-software is responsible for this kind of error. It can either be a mysql-bug (unlikely) or it can be that the mysql-server crashed (more likely) or due to some other server-related problem the table was corrupted. (We also have an FAQ item explaining how you can fix things yourself, as this is not all that uncommon on some servers).
