Is it possible to group files by section?
Forgive me if I’m missing something blatantly obvious, but I’m new to Textpattern.
On my site I will have multiple sections.
Each section is likely to want to have a bunch of files available.
Different sections are likely to have files of the same type(category).
For example, imagine every section as a product, and in each section is the option of downloading a user guide for that product. Both files will have the category “user guides”, but in each section I only want to list the files for that product!
Sorry is this doesn’t make sense – I’ve had WAY too much coffee today!
Is it possible to do this?

Files and images are not tied to sections as articles are, so it takes a little fiddling (unless you can find a plugin to accomplish your desired behaviour).
I think what you’ll need to do is actually use two different categories, so each can still be kept separate.
For example, let’s say you have section “Alpha” and section “Beta”. Create two categories: one named “alpha-user-guides” the other named “beta-user-guides”. You can set both categories to have the title of “User Guides” so it is transparent to the user, but still easy for you to manage and keep separate.

I see it is possible to create a hierachical structure by using the “parent” field when defining a file category.
Is it possible to use this so that you can create the following:
Category 1 = User Guides Category 2 = Product 1 Guides Category 3 = Product 2 Guides
Then have the ability to list either the product specific category or the parent category (including all files in sub categories?)
I’m guessing it’s the listing files in sub categories that’s difficult, as txp:file_download_list only seems to list all or just one category.

Yes, it’s not supported at this point (i.e: the backend does, but no tags do), not for any category type.
