popup list not displaying articles

I’m using this….

<txp:popup label="Browse" type="c" wraptag="p" />

But it doesn’t return any results, even for a category I KNOW has articles. What form does it use to display results? I fear I may have deleted it.

Re: popup list not displaying articles

It doesn’t use a form, so rest easy there. Whether it has articles or not, it should return all article categories that exist.

Could you post a tag trace, please?

Re: popup list not displaying articles

Okay:

<txp:popup label="Browse" type="c" wraptag="p" />

[SQL (0.004144): select name,title from `txp_category` where name != 'default' and type='article' order by name]

Okay, so the function is being called, and the query is run. If you run the query by hand (either phpMyAdmin or perhaps Rob’s plugin), do any results get returned?

Re: popup list not displaying articles

I’ve installed Rob’s plugin and i’m at the “Run MySQL” section. How do I run the query by hand?

Re: popup list not displaying articles

Under “extensions” > “run sql”, put this in the textarea and click “Run”:

select name, title from txp_category where name != 'default' and type = 'article' order by name

Once you’ve done that, do you get back “1/1 Query(s) Executed Successfully” and then a filled table with headings “name” and “title”?

For example, my blog doesn’t use categories, so the table I get back is:

name title
root root

Re: popup list not displaying articles

Yes I do. I get this…

1/1 Query(s) Executed Successfully

name title
Gong Gong
root root
Steffe Steffe

Re: popup list not displaying articles

That’s very strange. And no html (perhaps incomplete? view source) is output at all for this tag?

Something un-related that I noticed:

<txp:recent_articles label="New Releases" limit="3" break="<br />" sortby="Posted" sortdir="desc" />

You’ll want that to be:

<txp:recent_articles label="New Releases" limit="3" break="br" sortby="Posted" sortdir="desc" />

Textpattern will turn “br” into a tag for you.

Re: popup list not displaying articles

No html out put at all. Most odd.

Thank you for all your help anyway Mary. I’ll let you know if I ever fix it.

Re: popup list not displaying articles

No still nothing. However if I set the section=“downloads” bit I get a list of all the articles in that category. Which isn’t much good either.

…I get a list of all the articles in that category.

Are you talking about the page it directs to? I get the feeling we might be crossing over two different problems. What output do you get for the tag itself, when you do that? and, is it possible you’ve got categories and sections named the same, which is contributing to the confusion?
