Problem with sections and permlinks
Greetings everyone.
I have a problem which i hope some of you can help me with. I’ve searched the forums for an answer already but found nothing. My problem is the following:
In my web site i’m using permlinks in the format of /year/month/day/title. My objective is that, when i do something like “http://www.mysite.com/2006/08/09” it shows me all the posts made that day regardless of category of section. Currently i have two sections in which i post regularly, one call Blog and another called Hobbies.
When i did what i’ve exemplified just now (be it by specifying the full year, month and day, or just year and month or even just the year) all i was getting were the posts made in the Blog section. The ones made in the Hobbies section did not show up. Despite that, though, using the full permlink to one article of any of the sections (meaning, using the full /year/month/day/title) worked just fine and the articles showed up nicely. It’s just when i started to generalize to include more than one article that the ones from the second section stop showing up at all.
Now i fumbled with this for a while and i came to the conclusion that i can only get the behaviour i wish when i configure each of the sections involved to show up in the main page. If both are configured to show up in the main page, everything works. If i configure one of them to stop showing up in the main page, that section’s posts stop appearing in the posts listing i whish to obtain. The thing is, i don’t want the second section to show up in the main page at all. In fact, i was planning on not having any of the two particular sections showing up in the main page.
My question is, is there a way to gain the benefit of this behaviour, that i wish to have for my site, without having to depend on the need to have all of my most recent posts showing up in the main page?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Problem with sections and permlinks
No ideas from anyone at all? I’d really appreciate if someone more knowledgeable than me, with TextPattern, could comment on the issue here. It limits my design plans and i haven’t really found a way around it yet. So, any form of help or clarification would be more than welcome.

This isn’t really a troubleshooting problem. I’ll move it to How Do I, you might get an answer there.

Re: Problem with sections and permlinks
Are you looking for something like this: http://ferrydust.com/archivebydate/2006/08/07
That’s generated with the rss_suparchive plugin.
If you wanted it to output an excerpt with the article as well, it can do that.
The rest of my site is configured to go /section/id/title

It is indeed something like that that i wish to obtain. The thing is, i can make it work similarly to that but, when i select a day, it only shows the articles of that day that belong to the sections that i’ve configured to show up in the front page. I don’t want any of those particular sections to appear in the front page, but without that particular configuration it doesn’t work. Is there a way around this limitation? Thank you.

Re: Problem with sections and permlinks
I suppose i should have checked the plugin suggested, in more detail, before my hasty reply. After a few minutes of experimentation with it i’ve been able to achieve the results i was looking for without any of the limitations. It is now just a matter of tuning it to my precise needs. Regardless, now i know what to do.
Thanks to zem for correcting my posting error (for which i apologize) and to alicson for the extremely useful tip.
