The Birches
Ok, the second of a couple of planned projects using Textpattern is finished except for tweaks (I hope) and regular updating. This is the second full site I have tried to migrate from static html to Textpattern. The first was <a href=“http://www.ve1cbf.ca” title=“VE1CBF – The Yak Shack”>The Yak Shack</a>.
Without further ado, may I offer for your perusal and I hope enjoyment:
<a href=“http://www.milner.ca/” title=“MILNER – The Birches – One Man’s Castle In Cyberspace”>The Birches</a>
As always, comments and suggestions – polite ones! – welcome ;-)

Re: The Birches
Love that background image. I’d like to hop in there and take a walk.
The font size on the main navigation seems a lit-tle small compared to the rest (FF). Also, I get the feeling there is one font style too many. If the logo were the same font as the article titles (or vice versa), I might not get that impression. Other than that:
- Love the font style on the article titles.
- Scales very well on resize.
Left-column content doesn’t seem to want to appear and the logo drops far below the norm in IE7 beta, making the header much taller, so you might want to keep an eye on that in case it’s not resolved.
Bang-up job.

Dang, you’ve held as many jobs as I have ;)
Interesting site, you had a lot of content to bring over from the old site.
Things I see:- some of the fonts may be too small, top menu, article date, full article, comment and categories links
- comment link doesn’t take you to the start of the comments
- check the rss/xml link
I also live amongst the trees, I love it.

I have a similar image only in gold tones for the fall :-)

Actually I originally had the logo as pure text in the same font as the article titles. Not sure why I went with something else.

sigh I hate Internet Explorer. Fixed
Bang-up job.
Thanks!

Yes and it isn’t all over yet :/

I like the smaller contrast but you may be right. IE especially makes it miniscule. Did I say how much I hate IE? :)

oops Fixed
check the rss/xml link
Yup, I know about that one. I had been using it as an experimental link to a manually assembled feed. Removed for now

I love them but they are starting to encroach on the space my antenna turns in (I’m a ham radio operator). Not sure what will happen there eventually.
Thanks for the critique!

Re: The Birches
Very interesting site and looking very nice too!
About the search: it goes to /cms/search/ instead of /search/ and returns a 404.
When I found the right search page at first I thought the page was empty before I discovered the message ‘Your search returned 0 match(es)’ :) So, also for me, this font size is a bit too small and/or light.
(BTW I searched for ‘weimaraner’ because I was curious why it is in your keywords…)

I had been developing in /cms/ and just recently moved it to root. looks like I missed a path change – thanks for the heads up. Fixed
I was trying to keep the ancillary data available but unobtrusive henve the small type and light grey. I have darkened it somewhat and enlarged the text slightly. Might let me know if that’s more readable.

I have been owned for the last six years by a Weimaraner named Ruaraidh :) My grandfather used to raise them. That’s part of the content that hasn’t made it over yet. I had a small site about Weimaraners that I was going to merge into this one (though I have been urged to keep it separate). I probably should have left the site in testing a bit longer but I was impatient to get it live as I have been working on it between other things since the end of April. Too many projects – too little time. :)

So maybe also for you Oliver was the reason you ended up with Textpattern? ;)
