Need a little help with authorID change

I have a site that has a number of articles I started that need to be changed so that they essentially become associated to another persons account…effectively showing up under the other authors name.

I thought perhaps I could create a new account for myself, then in the users table delete my former account, and assign the other publisher my former user ID; but I guess that wasn’t the key, because now all the articles that once had my name are missing author names altogether. I also notice that the authorID is still associated to my former account username…that doesn’t seem promising.

Any of this make sense?

So, what should I have done to begin with (for future reference), and how do I fix it now? That is to say, how do I make it so all those articles start showing as the other publisher’s name? I’m guessing there is an SQL statement that would work here but I’m a bit uncertain…can anyone offer advice?

Re: Need a little help with authorID change

I think I confused my description by mis-referencing things.

I need to change it so that any article written under the “authorID” of my former account outputs the “Real Name” (as tied to the <code><txp:author /></code> tag) of the other publisher, as if he wrote the articles to begin with.

Shiza! Should I just reload the database, was there an easier/cleaner way?

Thanks

Re: Need a little help with authorID change

The “right” way:

You can do it one by one, or you can simply run one SQL query:

update textpattern set AuthorID = 'new-author' where AuthorID = 'old-author';

Where new-author and old-author are your user login names. You should still be able to run this query now and have it work.
