Trouble Publishing
I’m setting up a site for a friend using Textpattern at. (My first time using Textpattern, and he’s my guinea pig before I switch my own blog over.)
When I publish a new article, I get a strange behavior. Firefox prompts me to download index.php (which ends up being an empty file). Safari reports a lost network connection. WinIE 6.0 either gives me a blank page or this delicious morsel of information:
Trying to connect to an RPC Server...
*Fatal error*: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/xerxes00/public_html/blog/textpattern/lib/IXRClass.php on line 522
And yet, the article actually publishes. I have no other problems with any administrative tasks — changing pages and forms, editing preferences, even editing older articles — it’s just creating new articles causes this behavior.
Any idea why this is occurring? I’ve repaired my MySQL database, and everything seemed okay there.

Re: Trouble Publishing
In preferences turn off the two ping-options.
Looks like your server doesn’t allow outbound connections for them to work.
I have no idea, why you get the strange and different behaviour, though. Must be something server-specific.

Re: Trouble Publishing
It must have been a temporary thing — this morning, it’s magically working again. However, thanks for the tip; should I run into that problem again, I’ll try turning off the ping options. I really appreciate the fast reply.
