Is TextPattern the Best CMS for this Application?
Hey All,
Hoping the Brains Trust will be able to help my avoid many hours of trial and error.
I have been asked by a Community TV Station to try and create a site for them. The topology of the site is a bit unusual, and I am unsure whether I can tweak TXP to fulfil this need, or whether I need to (shudder) start from scratch.
I know that TXP can handle a single tier of Sections, with Categories under and spread across them.
ie. Main -> Section -> Article
But, as this station has programs, and the way the guys want it laid out, they want it something like this.
Main -> Type -> Program -> Episode
Probably not being as clear as I would like to be here, but that’s the general idea.
I know I could create separate instances of TXP for each of the “Type“s, but that would be messy.
Any ideas welcomed.

It also sounds like you grouping isn’t hierarchical.
People coming to the site would look for a specific program or for a type of program under which specific programs exist.
Thinking of it this way……categories are assigned to programs based on type of program and particular programs are sections unto themselves (with a custom article list?)

The layout is kind of heirarchical, just a teir deeper than the standard TXP system.
There’s the Main , the mother of all.
Then there are Type s, which are children of Main and have a number of Program s under them.
Then there are the Program s, which are children of a Type (and via that Main) which have a number of Episode s under them.
And, finally, there are the Episode s – the bottom of the pile.
Meh – I could possibly be too close to the ground to see the big picture with this one, so any feedback or alternate views are, of course, appreciated.

Would this work? Or did I totally miss the mark? :)
Main = front page and general articles collection
Type = sections
Program = category 1
Episode = category 2
Example:
Main – Home page
Type – Comedy (section)
Program – Married with Children (category 1)
Episode – Down with Lawn Mowing (category 2)
Episode – The Problem with Two Seaters (category 2)
Episode – When Bud discovers Bud(weiser) (category 2)
