Portfolio: with thumbnail navigation?

Hi, what might be the best way to organise a portfolio section with thumbnail navigation structurally like this: (he uses TP)

http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/portfolio/the-escape-committee-logo

Would you need to create a separate static page, say portfolio.php that you modify by hand with thumbs url’s and then use includes to place it in every entry page?

or perhaps use an iframe with that thumb portfolio page.

likewise if you wanted to grab some thumbs onto a homepage?

Re: Portfolio: with thumbnail navigation?

One way of achieving a graphical navigation:

  1. create one article per portfolio item.
  2. assign an article image and a thumbnail.
  3. assign all articles to some common sections or categories.
  4. use wet_thumbfilter to produce graphical links from the thumbnails to each individual article.

You’d be better off if you forgot what you’ve ever learned about php includes and the likes. You will seldom need such crutches. Get acquainted to forms.

Re: Portfolio: with thumbnail navigation?

In terms of side navigation that is done via thumbnails would this website do the same thing –

http://www.deeluxe.de/portfolio/34/interprom-werbegesellschaft-mbh

And when you mention article image and a thumbnail (coming from MT background i’m a bit confused) where would they be placed in TXTP, would you need to create extra fields so you can put in the url code for thumb and a main image or would you have to use the excerpt field?

When you upload an image through Txp’s interface, you get an option to either upload a thumbnail or create one automatically (which makes a resized version of the main image). The main image gets a numeric id, and that’s all you need to know.

Where you write your article, there’s a link to show “advanced options”, which contains a field to place an article image. In that field, you write the id of the main image. No path or extension, only the number. Txp finds the correct file and Wet’s plugin finds the associated thumbnail automatically.

In my Txp installation, I moved some code around to make sure the advanced options are visible by default, and that the image field is at the top instead of the bottom; it’s not very hard to do and makes life a lot easier if you post a lot of images.
