Gallery / Portfolio structure query
Hi, I’ve used MT previously and am just starting to figure out TP.
I was wondering structurally is this was possible for a gallery / portfolio section:
Gallery Section homepage with thumbnail grid that can be limited to a set number and split over a number of pages if necessary (either prev, next or 1,2,3,4..) like here:
http://www.trevorhart.com/commissioned/thumbnails.php
would this be a simple case of using 2 seperate templates? would the thumbnail link be placed in ‘excerpt’?
Is it possible to add an extra field (s) for entries? – so there could be a seperate one for the large image, description text, and thumbnail.
when in a main image page can a next/prev also be added to each page?

Re: Gallery / Portfolio structure query
There’s a plugin that can automatically show the thumbnail for an article image, and link it to the article. I haven’t tried it yet, but it should let you use an article form to show a thumbnail gallery. You can then simply put the proper image id in the “article image” field and write the description in the main text area.
There are tags to link to the next and previous entry, and to older and newer listings in the gallery.

thanks. Is it possible to create extra fields to TP if you wanted to have a few different content elements to a page ?

Re: Gallery / Portfolio structure query
There are 10 custom fields though the amount of content to go in there is limited to 255 characters.

hmmm I notice it says ‘no spaces or other special characters’
that’s a bummer I thought I would be able to use it for different text entry elements.
So there is really only the extended entry field and main entry field for text elements that can be used. But I guess image tags could be used in extra fields ? or maybe php/ssi includes that link to another entry file?

I’m pretty sure that’s only the names of the custom fields – not what you fill in when you write the article.

Re: Gallery / Portfolio structure query
ok. how about the grid effect. would it be possible to limit the number of entry thumbs in the grid, so it’s not a huge archive of images.

Re: Gallery / Portfolio structure query
Absolutely. You can use the limit attribute in the article tag to specify how many to show per page (it only shows 10 by default anyway). If you want line breaks or table rows at specific points, I believe you can use offset (also an article attribute) to split the listing into parts.

Did you have a look here to get an impression of what Txp can do?
