So Can I Create My TXP site on my Home Comp for future hosting or not?

I recently got back into the web design thing as sort of a hobby, and want to use txp for my future site. My question is, can I design and code my site on my own computer, and then find a host and upload it then (and if it’s possible, is it practical?), or do i have to have a host to begin with. The only reason I ask, is that its more a hobby than anything else, and I would hate to waste money on hosting while i am designing my site from scratch. (sometimes it takes me months to get everything the way I want it).

Also, is TXP more theme-centric like wordpress, or is it a little easier to create from scratch. I am getting the feeling that TXP is a little easier to work with as far as designing from the ground up, instead of tweaking themes and such in wordpress…

XAMPP is an excellent unzip and go solution. I prototype my sites locally before I move them up to my VPS, makes it easier for testing out ideas.

TXP gives you a clean slate with the default template, that’s why most TXP sites look unique.

wazzupflow, in case this helps at all, doing this is called “localhosting,” and as Bert’s post suggests, is a very possible (and common!) thing to do. As long as your computer can be configured to meet all of Textpattern’s requirements (which XAMPP will do for you), there’s nothing stopping you from developing locally. In web terms, a server is a server no matter where it is.

When it becomes time to move, Moving an Installation from One Host to Another may be helpful to you. The assumption in that article is that you’re moving between two remote hosts, but a lot of it still applies.
