Using vBulletin forum with TextPattern
Hi
I just found out about TextPattern last night. I like it because it produces web standards tableless markup and it is intended as a CMS which my second choice WordPress is not. However, WordPress has a nice plugin that will automatically generate a vBulletin forum topic everytime you make a new blog entry. Is it possible to do this with TextPattern. I only found three messages here when I searched on vBulletin which concerns me. Does TextPattern not play nice with vBulletin. I would prefer a more standards compliant forum such as this one (punBB) but it does not have a lot of features I would like to offer my site visitors

Hi florida_guy,
Ready for the Hurricanes ;)
We’re awaiting PunBB 1.3 to be released and work will begin on a plugin to integrate the forum with the front end CMS. If you must have vBulletin, you can put up a plugin bounty and have someone make it.
As far as features go, what are the must haves that vBulletin has that PunBB doesn’t?

Re: Using vBulletin forum with TextPattern
I don’t know what I did wrong. I clicked quote but the board didn’t show it as quoted. I had to move it down manually and put —— around it.
I still have hurricane supplies stashed from two years ago when we had three come through here. The last one Jeanne knocked down a very tall pine tree onto the roof of my house about an hour before she left the area. It was suddenly raining indoors.
I want to offer Private messages, “who’s logged on” , WUSISUG Editor… I expect to find more as I start using this board since the author says right off that he is trying to do a minimalist product.
Based on the news updates on the PunBB board it doesn’t seem like there is a lot of significant enhancement coming out at a very fast rate. Is there an expected date for 1.3?
Is it at least possible to use vBulletin with this CMS even if it isn’t integrated?

Re: Using vBulletin forum with TextPattern
I left Miami after Katrina came over us, that was enough for me.
We’re in the process of beta testing 1.3 now. The markup has changed quite a bit, so we’re making sure it’s working ok. I’ll hunt down a feature set for 1.3 and let you know. As for a stable 1.3, I’ll have a better idea in a few weeks but so far, I like what I’m seeing.

So why isn’t quoting working with the current version? Why has the mark up changed in the next version? Was there some kind of major re-write? Otherwise, why such a long time between updates? (Long time in the current environment compared to other Open Source projects anyway?)

On second thought, I think vBulletin would be better for you.

Re: Using vBulletin forum with TextPattern
?? Because I asked a few questions? Am I doing something wrong with the quoting or does it just not work like other boards?

The quoting on these boards is different from a normal PunBB installation. The forum admins are using Textile instead of bbcode, it takes some getting used to. If you visit the PunBB forums, play all you want in the test forum.

Realistically, at this point (if something doesn’t change my mind) I think my site is going to use TestPattern as the CMS and vBulletin as the forum. That means I will use this forum for my lifeline when I can’t figure something out with my CMS. What do I need to do to make my quotes more presentable?
