compliant markup?
Hi
I tried TextPattern some time ago and then I tried WordPress. I found WordPress to be a real mess with the code. I had to spend time getting it compliant to web standards. Plus the version I was using (I think it was 1.5) had what seemed like unfinished lines of code in it, or just code that wasn’t done properly. It was like you could see a group of people worked on it with no real supervision of who was doing what and with no real quality control.
The only saving grace with WordPress was it’s ease of setup
What’s the current version of TextPattern like web standards and ease of setup?
Thanks

Re: compliant markup?
Textpattern is fully compliant with web standards. I think the largest difference templating wise is that PHP doesn’t get in the way—simple, XML tags are used for templating. It’s really easy to setup for standards. I’ve never had a problem getting sites to validate (even have one running as application/xhtml+xml successfully). Check out the Textbook for instructions (or OpenSourceCMS for a demo).
The setup is almost as easy as Wordpress. Just setup a database, enter in the information in /textpattern/setup/, then copy-paste, and upload the code into config.php. That’s it. I highly recommend running a local install though.

Re: compliant markup?
I find TXP to me much easier to setup than WP. As far as standards go….. I believe that the way TXP works it is actually somewhat difficult to build a non standards site. The setup pushes you with the same work flow and good markup habits that you would want even without a cms in the back end. But I am biased. TXP is the most mashable, malleable cms I have ever used. I think you can make it do almost anything.

Can it read my thoughts ;)
TxP compared to the current WP 2.0 version is a toss up in ease of setup.
Where I see TxP take the lead is in the templating department. Like others have mentioned, it’s hard to create a non-compliant site. Also, text entered into articles via Textile never breaks your site. Too often we concentrate on the outer shell but forget about the content.
We Love TXP . TXP Themes . TXP Tags . TXP Planet . TXP Make
