Italian localization

Hi all!
I’m willing to do some work in order to translate Textpattern into italian. But of course I don’t have the slightest idea of where to begin. Is there a single file with all the words that i need to translate? Or what is the correct procedure?

Also, are there other italians out there willing to cooperate? Ehi? Ci sono italiani l

Re: Italian localization

Have a look at the file in /textpattern/lang/, which is en-gb.txt at the moment. Every (most ?) strings used in textpattern are in this particular file, just translate the right column, left column are variables that shouldn’t be translated.

Sorry, I can’t help for the italian ;-)

Re: Italian localization

OK Macubu.

Side note: I tried to get rid of those “Americanisms” (is that even a word? O_O ) so dam trendy these days in Italy, expecially while talking about computers and software. My version is almost English-words free.

Re: Italian localization

Ok, so now thanks to Neko, who practically did all the work and who deserves the merit, I can post the italian localisation of the Textpattern user interface.
You can find it on my site, under the name <a href=“http://www.ringaround.it/it-it.txt”>it-it.txt</a>.
The only way to make it really work for me was renaming it to en-gb.txt: that works like a charm.

Some translations which may cause discussion:
form => modulo
thumbnail => provino
live => visibile
Hmm… others?

Neko translated link into ‘collegamento’, which I changed back into ‘link’, since we normally call it this way and it’s much shorter, thus reducing double lines on the write tab of TXP. Form or functionality? The choice is, as always, up to you.

Minor changes will certainly occur, but then I will ensure they will be reflected on the file you can download from here.
Now we only need to translate the help entries… ;-)

Re: Italian localization

That’s a pretty nice version, Macubu. You’re right about “link”: it takes less space and it better fits the user interface. The only thing I’d change is “in onda” for “live”, just ‘cause we always used magazines/newspapers metaphors and that’s too much TV-esque.

Re: Italian localization

I’ve updated the italian it-it.txt file, in order to reflect the changes of the new 1.19 version. “This” is the link. [Sorry, the file is no longer required and this link has been removed].

Re: Italian localization

For anyone intrested I found a way to change the admin interface language without renaming files. Simply put “it-it.txt” in the “lang” directory and edit the following files on the “textpattern” folder changing “en-gb” to “it-it”:

  • publish.php – line 54
  • index.php – line 34

This way you can have as manu language files as you want in the “lang” folder.

Oh lord! Please don’t let me be misunderstood.
