Installation Woes

Hello,

I recently downloaded TextPattern to install on my web server. There’s just a small glitch: I’ve been unable to connect to the database. I have gone up on the setup page and dutifully filled out the required info (database name, database user, database password, etc.), but I always get this error:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user ‘user1’@‘admin.tornadodesign.com’ (using password: YES) in /*home*/*httpd*/*vhosts*/*andrew.dragonflytemplates.com*/*httpdocs*/*textpattern*/*textpattern*/*setup*/*index.php* on line 189
Can’t connect to database

I’m certain my password and username are right. I’m a little unsure wether I should use localhost or type in the name of my server. Also, the Detailed installation instructions mentions an elusive “Web host user account ID”, which it recommends you prefix the database login and name with. I admit that I do not know what a “web host user account ID” is or even if I have one. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

—Andrew

I’ve never seen a purple cow,
I never hope to see one.
But I can tell you anyhow,
I’d rather see than be one.

Re: Installation Woes

Localhost is usually right. You can verify that by opening phpMyAdmin, it will say something like

MySQL (version #) running on localhost as username@localhost

Also make sure you are not confusing username and password for the database with those for the server.

Re: Installation Woes

Thanks for getting back to me, Els.

Hmm. I logged into the database with PHPMyAdmin, tried installing TextPattern again and it worked. Go figure. Thanks!
