HTML tags in articles problem

I made a copy of an existing problem-free site of mine to start a new project and suddenly all HTML tags in ARTICLE TITLES stopped working and became visible. HTML tags within the article text seems to work ok. The tag in question is br.

Anyone got an idea where to look for the problem?

SORRY. I went back to my original site and noticed that the br tags don’t work there either. I thought it worked but it’ such a long time ago I think I’ve been confusing things.

and it seems that you can’t use HTML in titles at all.

I could have sworn it worked before (?)

This was changed in r991, I don’t know any details. Alex or Etz could likely explain it?
