TXP Hosting
Everyone and their grandmother recommends Dreamhost, but one of my clients has had problems with his site and has had much better experience with site5.com. What are you guys using as a host? What would you recommend?

Re: TXP Hosting
My dream is to have a TextDrive life-account but it’s out of my real needings and my budget.
In the meanwhile, I have a NutHost account. It’s an small shared servers hosting and the basic plan is cheap: u$s 1.40 per month.
I usually recommend it here in Argentina. It’s not the best, but not the worst and they have a good support/help.

Re: TXP Hosting
My sites are hosted with Textdrive and Dreamhost. Zero problems on Dreamhost (barely remember a downtime), had few small issues with Textdrive but since I got a “for life” account can’t complain that much. They’re putting a lot of effort (and money) into switching servers from BSD to Linux and Solaris systems, support is responsive and helpful, and the forums are great.
They’re both great services in my opinion, each has its own pros and cons but I can’t reccomend them enough.
If you’re planning to move your site you should also take a look at this page: http://textpattern.com/hosts
If you click one of those links and sign up you’ll support the TXP developers.

Re: TXP Hosting
I had one site on LinHosting where things were great (recently gone out of business unfortuantely) and my other TXP site is at <a href=“http://www.asmallorange.com” title=“A Small Orange Hosting”>A Small Orange</a> and I have moved the site that was at LinHosting there as well. I have only been with them since February but the service so far has been excellent, and the value (price//feature/service) has been great.
I have no direct experience with DreamHost but tend to shy away from firms that so obviously and grossly oversell.

Re: TXP Hosting
BTW:
Freshlypressed offers hosting and dedicated Textpattern support and thebombsite (a great guy in this forum) is behind it.
That could be another good choice.

Re: TXP Hosting
Dreamhost offers sustainable support, reasonably priced plans and is staffed with technically knowledgeable people. Absolutely no complaints…

Re: TXP Hosting
I’m in to TextDrive lock, stock and barrel. But, if you’re looking for other alternatives, I’ve heard great things about Media Temple

Re: TXP Hosting
Wow… so many options to consider! I may just bite the Dreamhost bullet, but not before I scope out some of these suggestions.
Thanks, and keep em coming!

Re: TXP Hosting
The search for a decent host is harrowing. I am turned off by the pyramid schemes incorporated by a lot of these providers. Do a search on Dreamhost reviews and you get hundreds of resellers proclaiming how great DH is. Duhhh, they are paid to advertise!
I have checked the above links ( and many more ) of them all, Media Temple looked the most promising (inclusion of Urchin stats) and I was SOLD…. until a script error prevented me from making my purchase. NEXT!
Right now A Small Orange and Planet Argon are looking like my top contenders

Re: TXP Hosting
Well, if you can afford it then I guess you should take a look at Segpub I’ve heard only enthusiastic comments about their services.

Re: TXP Hosting
SegPub looks great! A little out of my price range right now but a possible host for future endeavors.
UPDATE:
In my search I have contacted quite a few hosting companies via email to request additional information. Of the 15 hosts I wrote to, only 4 wrote back. Three of them were automated email messages with ticket numbers. Media Temple was the only one who went out of their way to reach me. I didn’t call them…they actually called me! It turns out they are aware of this problem. Their idea of a solution is for me to use FireFox, but I aint letting them take my $$ so fast. If they can work out their Safari bugs, I will be impressed.
After researching A Small Orange hosting, I have come to the conclusion that their client’s sites load quite slowly as oppsed to say Planet Argon sites (and Media Temple’s) which run like quicksilver. My mind is almost made up. It will be interesting to see if Media Temple can rise to the challenge…
