Using txp for conference registration

Hi,

Here’s my first attempt at a textpattern site. Its a non-blog site promoting and accepting registrations for the New Zealand Search and Rescue 2006 conference.

Registrations aren’t open yet, but when they are I’ll be using ign_password_protect and zem_contact_reborn along with a customised zem_contact_reborn plugin to record the registration data directly into mysql. More on this once I get the plugin working…

Any feedback on the layout or architecture is welcome.

Dave Robertson.

To me the site looks a bit “naked” due to the lack of a border or a colored background. My impression is, the site is falling a bit apart. And i do not like the footer, but that is simply my taste.
However it is really a nice start!

Re: Using txp for conference registration

Interesting that someone else has a need for some sort of registration function.

I’m working on (‘working’ being a very loose term) a plugin that will allow visitors to register for an event – an event being anything published on a page with the plugin.

The idea is to use ign_password_protect to check if the visitor is logged in and a known person. A simple checkbox with a customisable message allows them to register, and the user name and article id are then logged to a new table in the database. People who are not logged in will see nothing.

People with defined administrator privileges are allowed to see the list of everyone who has registered so far.

There’s a lot of other stuff floating around in my head, but they’re probably way beyond my abilities. I figure if I can get the basic functionality right I can go on from there.

I’m not sure if there will be any scalability issues with this approach – my need is for a small community org with no more than 40 members so I think I can manage it.

At the moment, the only real work I have done to date is to draw up a process chart and start with some pseudo-code – anything to delay actually having to code the thing.

Dave,

What’s the calendar app you are using on the site?
