Dulles Church

<p>Not my church, and I had nothing to do with the design, except to appreciate <a href=“http://www.dulleschurch.org/” title=“Dulles Church”>it</a>.</p> Makes nice use of zemContactForm, plus much more.

Re: Dulles Church

Podcasting sermons, pretty cool.

Hos do the members like the modern look of it?

Re: Dulles Church

My guess is they are pretty cool with it.
All the signs point to it being a contemporary church, well in touch with contemporary society.

It’s a pretty good site. Most things in easy reach and accessible to visitors and potential visitors.

We too podcast our bible talks. ;-)

Re: Dulles Church

With Podcasting, we can join any church we wanted, in theory.

Re: Dulles Church

The font used is hardly readable, it’s notched. It’s hard to explain, and I’m afraid a screenshot won’t help, would it?
Is it made with a Mac, is the font Mac-specific? I’m using Windows. And it shows in all three browsers. Magnifying to 180% in Opera 9 finally makes the font sharp.

Can anyone confirm please? It’s the second time I see this behaviour, http://thresholdstate.com has it too.
Maybe it’s just my monitor (I don’t think so).

Re: Dulles Church

ragger, I think I see what you mean. I started to see this on some sites around the time I installed a HP Laser printer.

The fonts used on these sites aren’t standard, at least not on Windows. It seems the printer installation has installed the fonts, but for whatever reason they don’t look great on the screen.

Re: Dulles Church

I have no problem with the font on the Dulles Church site on both my computers here.
I agree it’s not a ‘standard’ font, but it displays fine here (if a little small).

Re: Dulles Church

Thank you guys so much for this post, i really appreciate it. As for the font problem, i’ve seen the same results but only on specific windows computers. The one’s that seem to have the issue are the ones that have the Adobe Studio installed. My guess, like mentioned before, is that some programs installed an updated version of Lucida Sans that seems to distort some of the smaller text. That’s the only conclusion i’ve come to. :)

Thanks again.

Re: Dulles Church

Looks great here. It has a fitting, smooth and calming design. The only thing it might benefit from is smoother rollovers.

As far as the font issue, it will look choppy without cleartype enabled on Windows (Control Panel>Display>Appearance>Effects>ClearType). You could just remove the “Lucida Sans” option, since most Windows computers don’t have Lucida Grande (Lucida Sans Unicode usually), and feed them verdana or tahoma. You might want to add Bitstream Vera Sans for Linux users, since it’s pretty close to Lucida grande. My stylesheet looks like this to get the right look most of the time (excluding font smoothing):

<code>
body
{
“Lucida Grande”, /*Mac users and designers */
“Lucida Sans Unicode”,/*Most new Windows computers*/
“Bitstream Vera Sans”, /*Comes with the GNOME window manager (and KDE I think)*/
sans-serif; }
</code>

Again, well done on the site.
