I’m not supposed to say anything yet, but I can’t keep it a secret anymore:

Re: Scoop: Textpattern and WordPress..
I’ve been perusing blogs talking about Wordpattern:
Some…
- “got it” right away
- looked no further than the “official” logo, and likely only skimmed the contents of the site, showing Wordpattern for what it is/was:
- “merge the two failed projects”
- “Textpattern’s legendary documentation”
- “May contain traces of nuts.”
- “No animals were harmed in the making of this web site, except the bunny.”
- “links so clean, they’re invisible”
- “collect underpants”
- “world domination”
- also looked no further, but then realized what day it was
…thought the joke was…
- lame/stupid/annoying/boring/proof that Textpattern sucks/proof that April Fool’s Day sucks (most of the Wordpress pings):
- “…their joke was a little bit lame…”
- “…the dead and gone textpattern tried to pull a prank on bloggers… it really made textpattern look even more eroded than they already are. Bye bye textpattern”
- “It was cool for a year, now it just looks tacky.”
- “April Fool’s Day has become a damn annoyance.”
- “April Fools has no Place in Technology”
- the funniest thing they’d seen that day:
- “If you’re not laughing, you’re not living.”
- “Come ON people, LIGHTEN THE (censored) UP!”
- “I plan to switch to it the minute I get back from Antartica.”
- “It’s all great fun really…”
Typically, I don’t like pranks, since they can be mean-spirited (various while-sleeping jokes involving feathers and whipped/shaving cream or a bowl of water, etc). This joke, however, wasn’t intended to be mean, just a silly “what if?”
Personally, I thought the “crap text” the guys put together was fantastic, as was Alex’s download file, complete with the install instructions: “Install Wordpattern”.
And no, we hadn’t been planning this for weeks, try days. Another testament to the greatness of Textpattern, actually (and ironically): the site was up and running within a very short period of time. :)
