.htaccess related brokenness

I’ve never had this problem until now for some reason, even after installing the same version of Textpattern numerous times. When using clean URLs and the default .htaccess file, I get an error saying that index.php doesn’t exist (when it obviously does) when I try viewing the main page of the site I’m setting up. mod-rewrite is enabled as it should be. Any ideas?

Re: .htaccess related brokenness

Anyone with this problem, my advice is that if your Textpattern install isn’t in a top level directory, you’ll want to make use of the RewriteBase line. For me, my Textpattern install was under a sub-directory, so adding RewriteBase /~john fixed this problem.
