Beginner help - Front page?
Some background. I was very fluent with HTML about 5 years ago, but have hardly bothered with it recently.
I started a web site recently and wanted to go with the blog/cms format. I started with Wordpress, and am already flustered by it, and want to get into what Txp can offer.
I’m going to make a few different posts to try and get help with some of the questions/problems I’ve run into. Here’s one:
What’s the deal with the Front Page concept? The FAQ says
“The front page has its own page template and style setting; just like sections, it can have a unique page template and style, or share them with other sections.”
Is this the default page template that gets set as the Front Page? I want all of my pages to have the same look, so I don’t see the point in worrying about having multiple page templates. But I was trying to find some sort of “Front Page” template or default front page thing in the admin area, and found nothing.

Re: Beginner help - Front page?
Take a look at admin > presentation > sections. The section named “Default” is the front page.

Re: Beginner help - Front page?
In a nutshell: unlike Wordpress, Textpattern is more about building sites than just blogging (though just blogging is just fine, too). As such, the front page (i.e., the root of your site) has extra configuration options out of consideration that you might want the main page to behave differently than the rest of your site, and is a section in its own right (even though it displays content from other sections, which the others don’t). And because it is its own section it can have its unique template and CSS if you’d like, though that’s not required.
Welcome to Textpattern, by the way.

Re: Beginner help - Front page?
Experiment. See what happens if you go to your “sections” tab, and set each one’s “page” to “default”.
