Dev / Production environments

Hey all,
I’m sure this has been covered but I couldn’t find anything in the forums. I’ve got a couple sites running using the latest and greatest txp release. I’m getting requests to make changes to them but I’m not sure what the best way to update them is. What I mean is, I don’t want to be goofing around on the live production site, but I don’t know how else to do it. The change requests I’m getting are beyond simple content/text changes – they’re looking for user input forms, new sections, graphics, etc.

Does anyone know how to set up a duplicate development environment? And if so, how do you promote changes to production? Just wondering if there is a good way to do this type of thing.

Thanks…

Update – I just found out how to do some of this stuff in the manual (nice new look, btw!). Basically, it sounds like I’ll just backup the db and copy it to another server, make the changes, then overwrite the production one, correct?

Re: Dev / Production environments

A simple way to test new basic changes, is to create a silent section (“test” for example) and test your css/pages/forms in it.

If you need more drastic changes and testing, you will need to dump your database, archive your files, and move that to your own computer (where pache, mysql, php and so on would have to be installed) for example.
