Wordpress permalink conversion
Due to ethical considerations, I’m wanting to switch from Wordpress and Textpattern seems like the best option (well, actually, Textpattern is the only one with a Wordpress import function :P) . However I want to keep my current permalinks to avoid losing search engine ranking and inconveniencing users. Is it possible to keep my current permalink format (which is /year/month/day/post-slug/) when I use Textpattern?

Re: Wordpress permalink conversion
One permalink style that is available is “/year/month/day/url-title”. I am not sure how Wordpress saves the “post-slug”, the import script currently fetches the Title of a post and then “dirifies” it with textpattern’s own stripSpace/dumbDown functions.
However Textpattern stores Title and url-title independently, and if that’s how Wordpress does it too, it would be possible to adapt the import script to import the url-title from Wordpress as is. If you or anybody wants to have a go and possibly submit a patch, go ahead.

Re: Wordpress permalink conversion
Yeah, the ‘post slug’ is just wordpress’ name for a ‘sanitised’ version of the post title. For example the post title “Laptop medicine – decent drivers” becomes “/2006/01/05/laptop-medicine-decent-drivers/”. I’ll download Textpattern and have a look at the import function, but bear in mind that I know zero about PHP and even less about SQL. It’ll be next week at the earliest before I have an answer, because I have exams in a couple of days that I’ll get out of the way first.

I think that for most titles you’ll find that it will generate the same url-title, but I can’t guarantuee that it will be identical in all cases.

Re: Wordpress permalink conversion
Assuming that I fail miserably in modifying the conversion script (which is more than likely) then I can always look through Textpattern’s list and change any url-titles that aren’t the same. thanks for the info.

Re: Wordpress permalink conversion
I’ve imported my Wordpress installation to Textpattern. But when I choose /year/month/day/title in my preferences the permlinks displays the right address but when I click them I get a 404.
Is this function in Textpattern not working properly yet?

Re: Wordpress permalink conversion
Just as an update to the original post, the Textpattern url-titles all seem to be the same as they were in Wordpress – no SQL transfer needed

All the other clean URL’s are working. It’s just /year/month/day/title that doesn’t. Any ideas? Thanks for helping out.

You sure about that? I just checked your website and clicked some of the /year/month/day/title permalinks. They all worked for me using the latest versions of Safari and Tiger.

I’m still using WordPress on that site, yes. I’m working on a new homepage locally on my Windows XP laptop. I’m using EasyPHP.
Can it be because I moved my site to a different address?

Ah, yes, that would be an important thing to realize before I posted. Sorry about that.
I’m stumped. :(
