Exclude one category from the listing

What I want to do is exclude a category from the normal listing, so I can put the articles in it anywhere else on the page. What tag should I use?

there are more than one way doing this f. e. you could list your categories under a parent category and list them with txp:category_list parent=“myCat”….

or use a plugin like wow_menue (i guess it works, never used it)
