recieving "database unavailable" error when attempting install

hello all,

i just downloaded the latest textpattern, unzipped it, and ftp’d the files to my host. i placed the files on the root so, per the installation instructions, i launched http://onegear.net/texpattern but receive an error that the database is unavailable. i have a working, configured, mysql database. i just can’t figure out what i’m doing wrong.

thanks for your help.

Re: recieving "database unavailable" error when attempting install

I vouch for Textpattern’s honesty. If it says that it cannot connect to the database, you can believe that it is not lying to you. Most likely there’s either something with the server’s configuration that is interfering, or you have some of your connection details wrong. Since you provided information about neither, I’ll have to rely on purely psychic powers – which I have to admit are very lacking. (maybe someone else can try).

I’ll try to help if you try to describe your problem more specfically. You can start by posting your config.php (with passwords X’ed out).

i have a working, configured, mysql database.

When you say “mysql database” – do you mean a mysql-software as in mysqld – or do you mean you have created users, created databases in mysql, and granted those users the right privileges for those databases? What are the steps you went through to verify this? With which client? Was the client on the same server where textpattern will be running? Are other php-scripts with database-access running fine on the server? There’s a few more dozen questions like this I could ask, but I guess you now have a general idea on what we need to know for being able to help you.
