Experiences with end-users
I’m not sure whether this is the section to post but anyway:
I will build a TXP based site for a local elementary school and am wondering if the TXP interface is easy enough to understand for end-users who do not have much computer experience. Should I use the standard interface or something like the Tinymice plugin?
I’m curious what your experiences are.

Re: Experiences with end-users
It depends on previous knowledge and experience of the users. If they have had little exposure to computer-related stuff, people are amazingly flexible and can quickly learn to efficiently use very different interfaces. But once they have gotten used to something (even if it’s something completely annoying), they will complain about anything that is different to their expectations.
The Textpattern interface is not complex or hard to learn in itself, I have seen people with little pc-experience quickly learn how to use it well.

Re: Experiences with end-users
I have one end user who is barely able to send an email. At her own request I restricted her priveliges and I also modified the language file so that she could understand what the various parts of the interface are for. She has been happily running her TxP based e-commerce site for almost 6 months now and gets all excited about being smart enough to use Textile! When we started out I created a hidden test page where she could post and try stuff, away from the public eye. I also posted another hidden page with some basic tutorials that she can reference. Doing that seemed to give her the confidence to learn. We have never met face to face, it was all done by phone and email (some of her emails needed repeted tries before she got it right!).
If you explain things in simple terms and don’t get to geeky on their ass, most people will get it really easily. If I can teach her how to update a commerce site, the rest of humanity should be a walk in the park!

Re: Experiences with end-users
Sounds good. I also like the idea of a hidden page for testing.
thanks.
