Newbie who could really use some help...thanks!
I apologize in advance because I’m sure that the answer is out there in the forum, but I can’t seem to figure out exactly what I should be looking at….I’m hoping that someone out there can save me countless hours on Google with a quick answer.
I just installed and started using TXP, and I am absolutely thrilled to have a blog and website. I have this vision of what I want it to be, but I honestly have no idea what I’m doing. I love to learn, and I love new challenges, so this is right up my alley.
I have very little programming knowledge, but that stuff comes very easily, and I’m a very logical person and do well with things like that. Still, right now I’m learning.
So my situation is this…I want to basically have a section on my blog that pulls headlines from news sources that I choose. I understand the very basic RSS stuff, but I think i need some kind of reader to be able to put the information in my website. I know I can get a feeder that is standalone, but can’t I also get some sort of feeder that would display the current headlines from my news sources whenever someone pulls up my site? Is it a plugin? Is it free?
Again, I am sorry that this is probably an obvious answer. I’m really looking forward to learning more here, and I appreciate anyone’s time and knowledge…
Thanks!
Ken

Welcome to Textpattern!
Magpie RSS may be helpful to you in pulling content from news sources. As I don’t really have that much experience with it, I recommend checking out the Magpie site for more information.
As for getting used to Textpattern itself, I highly recommend reading and re-reading as much of the FAQ and Textbook as you can stand. Downloading one of the themes at Textgarden and studying the markup is also a great way to learn how Textpattern handles layouts and presentation.
