Automatic excerpt generation - native support?
Hi guys,
Is there a recommended method for generating an excerpt automatically from the article body?
I’ve spotted a few plugins from this thread but date back to 04 – is there native support in the latest 4.0.2 build or will i have to resort to the latest releases of these plugins?

Thanks.

Will this work with 4.0.2 and not cause any headaches with future upgrades?

It works for me in 4.0.2.
As for future upgrades… I cannot be sure…
Future is uncertain.

If you don’t mind the extra 10 seconds or so that it takes to create the excerpt you can do this without a plug-in using native TXP tags only. This would give you more control as you can dictate what appears in the excerpt, it doesn’t even have to be a part of the article, and reduces the possibilities of outputting invalid code. Of course it’s one less plug-in too. :)
