Forum Integration?
I was curious to know if TXP was able to be integrated with V Bulletin forum software. I read a previous post where a few said that it was not able to be integrated with txp. So what I’m wondering is, what forum software is able to be used with txp?
Is there a list somewhere, or can someone name a few?
Thanks,
Deron

Re: Forum Integration?
Hi Deron,
I just had a look at your site, so let me give my 2cents.
Integration can happen at different levels:
a) Single login from the front end to the forum, not really needed if the front end is for information and only a few people edit content. Like you’re not really running a blogging community where people login to leave comments.
b) Use the forum for discussion, commenting happens at the forum. Provide a link from a story to discuss it on the forum.
c) Just style each app to look the same, so it’s just CSS changes, etc.
From the look of your site, a slim forum would be ideal like PunBB

Re: Forum Integration?
Ehm, to answer your question, adding to hcgtv’s post;
I once did a good job integrating punBB on a TXP powered site. It was simply an install in a subdirectory, sharing the same stylesheet, and some php includes for the menu/navigation etc.
But if you want a complete, integrated solution, skip Textpattern for that particular job and go for Drupal istead. If you’re not settled on TXP yet, that is;-)
EDIT; but that said – I must say I keep going back to TXP – it has a certain charm. But Drupal is a good choice for the more community based sites… Different fools different tools, y’know…

Re: Forum Integration?
Thanks for the replies! I’ll take a look at some of the suggestions.
hcgtv, thanks for the info. I wasn’t going to be using it with my current site, as I’m building a new one, but would be more or less the same idea. I’d have a few static pages, and then I wanted a forum integrated into the site.
Thanks
