Switching host

Would I just do a MySQL database backup, install TXP on my new host and import the database?

Re: Switching host

Pretty much. The mysql backup is called a dump.
Sometimes you can get tricky errors when you do this because of mysql version differences, and/or extranious characters that your language pref doesn’t understand?

On my last switch, I ended up dumping each table individually and importing them into the new install on the new host to replace the old (having removed those already)

Through phpmyadmin its actually a pretty simple task.

The “textbook:http://textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=Moving_Installation_from_one_Host_to_Another has an article on it here

Re: Switching host

If you have a bunch of errors i can recomend http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=2399 as a back up alertative. i have had to use it in the past on problematic sql version differences. It’s a little more work, but you end up with a clean install and everything in place, but your images and files which you need to transfer manually either way. I have not tried the scripts in 4+, but I don’t see any reason they wouldn’t work.
