Can I even use TextPattern for this?

Alright,
I am having a REALLY hard time getting TextPattern to work the way I want it to. Now I am kind of questioning whether textpattern is what I should be using to fulfill my purposes. Here is the lowdown:

I am revamping a website for my campus ministry. Right now its still in its old form at http://www.mulutherans.com (you can see the beta at www.mulutherans.com/mu_beta). Anyway, my pastor wanted a more interactive web site for students to visit. He asked for a web site that we (peer ministers) could post pictures on for people to see. He also wanted a site where a peer minister (administrator) could post a question, and students could reply with their comments (It would be something like a weekly lesson).

I figured that lessons could be in the way of a post or article and the picture gallery seems to be handled well by current Textpattern plugins. However, I am wondering if having a site (mulutherans) and a separate textpattern site is a bad idea. Right now I have Txp installed in a subfolder of my main directory but I am getting weird errors (http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=12521) about SAFE MODE. So is Txp right for what I want to use it for or am I all wrong?

Also, if textpattern is going to be okay to use, I have a few questions the need answering, I appologize for my newbieness to MySQL and Textpattern.

1) where should I put .htaccess? I put it in my textpattern directory and got Internal Server errors. All I had in the file was what was recommended in the help file associated with the .htaccess error

2) “Notice: Undefined offset: 1 in /home/virtual/site76/fst/var/www/html/textpattern/include/txp_auth.php on line 105

Warning: Cannot add header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/virtual/site76/fst/var/www/html/textpattern/include/txp_auth.php:105) in /home/virtual/site76/fst/var/www/html/textpattern/include/txp_auth.php on line 117”

This is the error I get on my main machine when trying to login. It prevents me from logging in on my main machine but since I have the autologin on my laptop, I can still access the control panel from it. Weird?

3) I still get safemode errors, does anyone know a remedy to this that I can do?

FAQ. Basically: talk to your hosting company to find out what’s wrong, become a mod_rewrite expert, or use messy URL mode.

2) “Notice: Undefined offset: 1 in /home/virtual/site76/fst/var/www/html/textpattern/include/txp_auth.php on line 105

Upgrade to 4.0.2 and/or delete your txp_login cookie.

See the other thread.
