Did anybody try mint?

shaun inman replaced shortstat with mint <a href=“http://www.haveamint.com/”>http://www.haveamint.com/</a>.
I was wondering if anybody here has tryied the software and also if they have managed to make it work with txp.

Re: Did anybody try mint?

I couldn’t get at the demo, trying various times and days since it was released. I managed to find a demo someone else had setup:
http://www.wackomenace.co.uk/mint-demo-live/

I poked around but there isn’t much content for the demo, so you can’t really tell if its useful or not. From what I can see, to me it’s awful busy (and without the content too!), presenting too many choices at once. If others like it, okay, but I don’t see myself using it.

Re: Did anybody try mint?

Speaking of Mint, has anyone measured its performance on a busy site? There are a number of reports that Shortstat doesn’t scale well, easily confirmed by a quick review of its code (no indexing!). It’s one of the likely causes of mysterious “Textpattern” performance problems. I wonder if Mint suffers the same problems.

Re: Did anybody try mint?

Someone here recommended SlimStat – an offshoot of ShortStat. I installed it from scratch and it’s much better then shortstat. From what I see, it uses indexes on the tables.

Re: Did anybody try mint?

Well thanks to Mary’s link I’ve finally seen the damn thing and I’m wondering what all the fuss is about. I like the styling but you could do all that Minty goodness with ShortStat if you took the time to do it. I already had hacks for weekly and monthly stats and some nice styling as well. I agree with Mary about it being too busy. There’s is a lot there that frankly has little good use. I suppose it appeases the stats-freaks though. Not for me I’m afraid.

I didn’t have much problem with the performance of the old ShortStat zem though thebombsite wasn’t as busy then as it is now. I might just re-install it and see what happens.

Re: Did anybody try mint?

Stuart, take a look at SlimStat. Its quicker and I like the stats. Not too busy, actually the layout is thoughtfully done.

Re: Did anybody try mint?

I read your first post and have downloaded it to have a look. I’ll see if I can make it look like Mint then sell the CSS for $10.00. How does that sound? ;)

the ‘problem’ is that it does not list search strings yet…

Re: Did anybody try mint?

colak, it does list search strings.

Stuart, who wants all that java script anyway? ;-) But I’d likely pay you the 10 bucks anyway for your hard work!

Re: Did anybody try mint?

How am I doing? There’s not a lot I can do with the “rounded corners” and alternate line colours without going into the main code and hacking it and I don’t fancy doing that. :)

Re: Did anybody try mint?

The thing that is great about Mint is that it does a better job about filtering out hits from Spammers and Bots, but there is a tradeoff with non-javascript users (though I believe that the amount is so minimal that I won’t notice a difference for my site).

Re: Did anybody try mint?

I’ve been using Mint for a while now. I wrote about it on my site. I think Shaun Inman has tried to address the performance issues ShortStat faced, for example the table is better indexed. There are several high profile sites using Mint right this minute, i’m guessing without issue. Mints home page apparently gets tons of hits a day, and is using Mint.

Re: Did anybody try mint?

Well it’s bound to if you keep linking to it like that Ramanan.

SlimStat does a good deal of filtering from the short look I had through the config file. I’m letting bots through at the moment. For spam you can block single IPs and ranges and also specify words within the site name. I’ll let you know how we get on with each other but I definitely haven’t lost $30.00 along the way. ;)
