Image name VS. Image ALT
I get a lot of visitors from image.google because my images are sorted like title_subtitle.jpg. The google search leads directly into my image-folder. People find the images they are looking for and some stayon my site. If I use the Textpattern-import images are renamed like “001.jpg”, so I will loose these visitors from Google’s image search. But I can tag the images with an ALT-tag.
Which policy is the better one?

The ALT tag is not there as a text version of the image name but to provide a value that non-graphical browsers can use in place of the image. For example, using “alt=technology_internet_select.gif” is of no value compared to “alt=Select the Internet Category”. I suppose you <i>could</i> also tuck it into a title or longdesc attribute.
An alternative, and one I have been using as I learn TXP has been to keep the images in a regular directory they were in for my static site and reference them in the same manner. If course you will have to upload them via ftp or your control panel rather than TXP but I (personally) don’t see that as a problem.
You might do a forum search for image names as the topic of image naming has surfaced a number of times and everyone has their own favorite solution.
Then again I also keep browsing my image folder out of the sight of bots/spiders/surfers :-)

This is just the way I do it. I keep the images in a seperate folder and reference tothem via HTTP in the article_image box, when writing an article. But I want to set ALT-tags too for Inktomi and other spiders who ignore the image-names. This is possible, but incredibly complicate.
Isn’t ther a nice workaround for that – like telling Textpattern not to rename the images?
Or do I completely misunderstand search algorithms, which is really possible?
