multiple threads/categories?

Hi all,

I’m very new to Textpattern and blogs in general. Please forgive my noobness. For the last two weeks I’ve been reasearching blogs to use on my site. I’ve decided on Textpattern (but still have WP in the corner of my eye). I’m pretty sure this is the one that will do what I want but am having a bit of trouble figuring it out. Perhaps someone here can help out? I don’t need it spelled out but a pointer to some existing similar uses or a generalization of the proccess. I think my main problem stems from language/terminology.

I have a site that is a listing of events in a festival. I have tables for artists, events and venues in MySQL and use php to build lists either by artists, events (by date) or venues – each list type contains data from relavant rows from the other tables. It’s a basic relational db.

Each event has a details button that opens a pop up window and gives event details, artist bios, etc… After an event is over, post event details like photos, etc… will be posted. I would like to use textpattern to add a blog to each event to allow both event organizers and the public to comment on the event. There are about 55 events so that would be 55 independant threads. Also the organizer will have thier own blog that runs through the front page and is syndicated through rss. I would like the blog’s to run as an element/object embedded in my existing site structure rather than contain all the site content within the blog. It would still of course have it’s own db tables.

All this seems possible with Textpattern but ‘m lost to the method of implementing it. I have it installed locally and been playing with it, plus reading the docs but am missing something – probobly basic. Any pointers here on the direction I should take?

Thanks!!

Re: multiple threads/categories?

This FAQ briefly explains Textpattern’s terminology and structure.

Embedding Textpattern inside an existing script is sometimes possible but not recommended. You can use your existing pages as Textpattern templates, however. Perhaps that’s what you mean?

pfft (on me).. Thanks!! I did see this FAQ entry – well I read the heading anyway. I thought ‘external’ was refering to an external domian. Should have read it anyway. Thanks again!

Re: multiple threads/categories?

ah.. and the ‘I’ve installed Textpattern. Now what?’ FAQ. shame on me. I’ll stop spamming this thread now. just my way of apologizing for a pretty lame question answered by the FAQs.
