Export my TxP entries?

I want to have copies of all my entries on my local machine and was wondering if there was a quick way to extract them from the database. I’m not looking for anything fancy—plain text is fine. Anybody have a suggestion?

Thanks!

Re: Export my TxP entries?

Maybe I wasn’t being clear. I don’t need a copy of the entire database—just my entries in plain text.

It wouldn’t be too difficult to get a script written that could do that for you. What’s the reason, if I may ask? If its likely to be something others will want then someone may make a plugin to handle it.

Re: Export my TxP entries?

phpMyAdmin has options for exporting in a range of formats, including several that are text-based.

Re: Export my TxP entries?

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to download articles, formatted as text with all the infromation from several database tables, like bylines and dates published.

For instance:

Article title
by author
Oct 9, 2005

This is my article

These are my comments

Is that what you are trying to do? If so, That could be done with alternate stylesheets or by turning off stylesheets on your browser if you just want ot do this occasionally.

I imagine that this is a highly personal thing. I find that I write best when I’m offline— there’s no way to distract myself —but I sometimes find myself needing to refer to older articles, and it’s a pain to have to hook up my laptop again, open my site in a browser, and search for the text I need. Having local copies of everything I write would resolve that issue.

But, on the other hand, I could see a script benefitting others without my idiosyncrasies. Perhaps for those who need to export entries from one TxP install to another in a situation where just replacing the db won’t do.

And Ren, yes, that’s more or less what I want—except I was hoping there was a script that would eliminate the work of having to save each article by hand.

zem, thanks. I’ll look into phpMyAdmin.

Re: Export my TxP entries?

You can just make a new page template and form. Format the template so it prodcues the plain text file you want. Use a article_custom tag to dump out all of your posts.

Mm yes. But that would be far too simple! :D
