The Fillip Review
The Fillip Review — an online version of an offline journal on contemporary art based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. I finally finished converting this our site to Textpattern. Things seem to be working smoothly, although I have not had a chance to test the CSS in IE/win. Also still havn’t found an alternative to font-size: pixels that I am satisfied with.. So sorry IE, no text resizing.

I like it too. One minor thing I noticed. When reading one of the “excerpts” there is a link at the bottom to retailers. I’m thinking it should be the same link as is in the left sidebar?? but there seems to be an extra directory in the URL.

Justin and Stuart, thanks for that. I think the retailer’s link had an outdated reference to the test-site I was using to develop the site. It seems to be fixed now.
I made a few adjustments, increasing the visibility of the the “contents” of the site. Our next issue will be released next month, so I have been too busy, but I hope to move things around a bit. It will mean dropping complete support for 800×600, but our logs seem to indicate that would be acceptable. I’ll put up a post when I have a chance to make the changes.

Re: The Fillip Review
The site returns “server not responding”. Why do people assume that because people have high res monitors they surf fulls creen? If anything, those with high resolution monitors usually surf in a window considerably smaller than their screen size. I’m usually using a 1280×1024 or 1600×1200 (occasionally 1920×1440) but usually surf in a browser window that is rarely larger than 1000 pixels and usually closer to 8-900 wide as I have other things open on the screen. Personally I hate sites that force me to enlarge my window or scroll horizontally just to see everything. The only possible exception is when the ads are down the right column, I don’t care if I don’t see them. Just my 2 cents (worth about 1.25 these days :-) )

The site seems fine on this end. hmm.. The host is a bit unreliable, but there has never been too much down time.
I do agree that people don’t surf full size, but there are ways to break out of the 800px width, especially with the use of columns, and ordering information within the 800px, and have less crucial content extend slightly beyond that (I am talking a 1000px layout here)..
