Re: Can't run setup.
Are you trying to upgrade an existing installation? Don’t run setup.
Trying to start from scratch? Delete the contents of the database.

Re: Can't run setup.
What do you do if you get this error when attempting an upgrade and you did not run setup, you just went to the login like normal (and like the instructions say)?
The future is… now!

Re: Can't run setup.
When you are upgrading you don’t run setup, at all. SO there’s no way to get the message.
Have you followed the instructions when trying to update? What have you done?

Re: Can't run setup.
I uploaded the new Textpattern files (/textpattern directory, index.php and .htaccess) and went to my admin page (domain.com/textpattern). I was asked some questions (language, database connection stuff, etc), it asked me to set up an admin account and then when I clicked next I got the error above.
I did not run any setup script directly, I just uploaded the files and accessed my admin page via a web browser.

What you are describing is setup. :-)
It is run automatically when config.php is not found. My guess is you accidently deleted it. Re-upload it from your backed up files.
