Can you recommend the best gallery plugin for me?
I’ve tried a few, none are very good if you have many categories of images. Am I missing something? Is there no quality gallery plugin for Textpattern yet? Thanks, I’m really hoping to find a great gallery link.

Depends what you are doing with it.
Standalone galleries are probably a better idea if you have to manage a large number of photos, such as Yapig or Plogger:http://www.plogger.org

Try rss_thumbpop as gallery and use aba_image_import to handle the upload of the images.
There is a tutorial how to create a gallery:
English version – Setting up a thumbnail-gallery
German version – Eine Thumbnail-Galerie umsetzen

Do you know flickr?
It’s a service to upload your pictures, and many bloggers are using it. The possibility to organize your photos in sets (=categories / albums) are amazing and very comfortable.
Plus, there are many batch-uploading GUI-Tools for Linux/Mac/Windows.
I’ve created a plugin that integrates flickr into txp. See demo and forum thread. The demo is not very beautiful, but shows what can be done. You can customise everything with textpattern forms.
In my opinion this is the most comfortable option if you prefer an integrated gallery instead of a standalone one.

There is a great php script out by Kai Horlbeck
Get the version 2.3.2 (aktuell) and try it out.

I would love to start on them but their tutorial is so unhelpful. I have tried and failed few times!

It’s hard to be simpliest as this tutorials but it assume you know very well textpattern before you use it. Attention with the words “section”, “page”, “form”… : they have a very special meaning in textpattern. You must know how to use them (and what they represent) before going further.
On which point do you fail ?

Very interesting ! :) I was afraid that the integration could be not complete with txp… but it is. The visitor just see a gallery in txp layouts and it’s very customisable. Great plugin, well documented. Good job !

I’m sorry, this tutorial is for advanced users. You have to be very familiar with textpattern and textpatterns way to handle things.
Tell us what you did and what didn’t work.

Re: Can you recommend the best gallery plugin for me?
I have only started using textpattern yesterday and getting hang of it.
In the tutorial, it says put in first code in ‘that page’ – what page? Where?…

barnettgs,
you should learn a bit about TXP in the first place :). As with every software you have to manage a bit of a learning curve. Don´t give up. Just play around with TXP, read some tutorials and consider it rather fun than “a great problem”.

Re: Can you recommend the best gallery plugin for me?
I have to second what alexandra wrote: Get familiar with the “textpattern way” by playing around with the sections, pages and forms.
To give you a clue considering your problem. I think you’re talking about this part:
3. The Sections, Pages, and Forms
First set up a section called e.g. “gallery” and assign a
X/HTML page to it. This will be the gallery overview page. Style the page as you like it. To list single galleries on this overview page, we use conditional comments.
Place the following lines into that page.
That means:
- Go to the presentation tab. You will be automaticly directed to the page tab.
- Move to the bottom of this site to “Copy page as:”
- Enter a name, e.g. “gallery-page” click copy.
- Now, back on top of the page, switch to the sections tab
- Create a new section called “gallery”
- After creating the section, go down that page until you find the preferences of the new section “gallery”
- Change “Uses page: default” to “Uses page: gallery-page”. Save it.
Now you have a section called “gallery” that can be fount under www.your-site.com/gallery and you have assigned a X/HTML template called “gallery-page”. The following code lines mentioned in the tutorial have to be inserted in this page. So go back to the page tab, select “gallery-page” under “All pages” and add the code.
That’s it :)

Re: Can you recommend the best gallery plugin for me?
Thanks, I have tried earlier but I have placed the code within content div. Was I doing correct thing?
I had got it working in the end but somehow my images still pop up instead of displaying image at the bottom of gallery page (similar to demo showed). Not sure where I went wrong there.
Cheers

Can you post the code you used? It sounds like a missing attribute in the rss_thumbpop tag.
