Re: hit_logger plugins alpha v0.9.06 - could use some testers.

i installed it and everything works fine. i have one question though:

http://michaelvesen.de/shot.jpg

why does it show the page fav.icon? the file fav.icon is not even on the subdomain textpattern is used on. i deleted the file on my main-domain now and will see what’ll happen once there are more visitors.

I don’t understand why those appear. I’ve seen the plugin reporting missing favicon.ico files as 404s, but I haven’t seen my code get called if they exist. Basically I log anything that I’m told about, I’m not sure why Textpattern would see this file getting accessed…

yeah, the favicon appearance is strange. First time they turned up was with TXP RC1 or 2 i noticed. I did ask around why and someone said it has to do with IE ..

@ michaelvesen.de -> you got a beautiful photoblog, like it

its so strange, even though i deleted the file, it still gets displayed and has like by far the most hits…

well, well, maybe someone else knows an answer.

i dont think it has to do with browsers @ alexandra. because as you can see in the link below, almost 80% of my visitors use firefox and still the bug appears. [shrug]

nor do i actually.

something else concerning 404´s: about 40% of total hits are 404´s on textpattern.kbbu.de , quite alot and i do not know why.

That file gets requested by the browser for every page that it requests (Firefox, IE, and others). You’ll see it for everything that a visitor to your site requests as well as every page in the admin section that you view. The file is used for the little icon in Firefox tabs as well as the icon some browsers put in the address bar or next to a bookmark. Drag this link to your desktop and you’ll see a a little lego block as the icon.

If the favicon.ico file is missing, it should appear in the log as a 404 (with an X in the “flags” column). If it’s on your server, you shouldn’t see a request at all.

They’re pretty standard web files – my confusions is why they’re in your log and not marked as a 404. I should only log things that Textpattern served to the web browser…

Are they actually 404’s? What sort of files are they? I get a ton of 404’s as well and there are also some “messy url” requests that should be 404’s, but aren’t flagged that way.

Hi Lee, i noticed (perhaps someone else too?) my Daily Hit Statistics stopped after 14 days. The last info is for the 28th of Sept. May be a bug?
