Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
I also had problems logging in, I found the instructions how exactly to enter the paths in config.php were not very clear. But after trying a number of possibilities I got it working. I quite like it, it’s a simple system and the layout is easy to change.
So if someone would integrate this into Textpattern I’d welcome it.

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
swf, doggiez, also add a problem and it’s not only htaccess : when you disable it, problem remains… it’s funny that it works with EasyPHP local but not on TextDrive… I think ZenPhoto has lot of progress to make : it looks more like an alpha than a beta to me…
I tested Plogger and I must say : it’s NICE !!!
Very nice indeed, and that’s real competition for the future photostack.
It’s simple, easy to set up, well thought out… I have to say it look like a real step up from other gallery sytems.
Plus, it’s damn easy to integrate to your website :
<blockquote>To integrate Plogger into your website, place the following PHP
statements in the HTML document you wish display the gallery:
First line of HTML file -> <code><?php require(“gallery.php”); ?></code>
In HEAD section of HTML -> <code><?php the_gallery_head(); ?></code>
Somewhere in BODY section -> <code><?php the_gallery(); ?></code></blockquote>
I just like it, and I’d advise to test it :-)

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
But how easily can it be integrated into a textpattern site? I tried it real quick but I get an error:
Cannot redeclare getmicrotime()
But, it works well.
Update
I renamed the getmicrotime() function in gallery.php so that problem has gone away. Now I can have the collection show up in one of my textpattern pages, but the links are all wrong so you can’t view the pictures. Getting closer, though.

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
I used Gallery for awhile, but it was big and had a lot of features I didn’t need. When I migrated from my old server to TxD, I looked around for an appropriate gallery software and settled on SimplePHP Gallery. It really is simple and may be offensively so to some. I don’t mind editing a file for the album/image title and description and copying files to TxD via <code>scp</code> is pretty easy too. SimplePHP Gallery was pretty darned easy to set up and get running on TxD. I’m also using it on my (ahem) professional website to display images of engineering “things” for my students (which I just started and needs a lot of work—humph!).

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
I tried Zenphoto out for myself. It was pretty easy to install once you had spent 20 minutes working through the config.php and for those who had a problem logging in you do have to modify the .htaccess to match your rewriteBase. Having said that I still got errors relating to chmod so I ensured the appropriate folders were chmoded and commented-out the line that calls it. The biggest draw-back I found was that, if you have thumbs of different heights ie a mix of portrait and landscape, the thumbnail pages looked a mess as rows wouldn’t slide across properly. This could probably be cured in the CSS but by that time I couldn’t be bothered. It had lost it’s sparkle. These things should be easy enough to fix so I shall try it again when it’s been through a few revisions. In the mean time I shall stick with what I have which is neither an external application nor a plug-in.

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
Hmmm…I moved back to zenphoto for the time being. There is a newer .8 version that cleaned up some of the config.php mess. I set it up last night for one of my sites and it took less than 15 minutes (that included uploading 85 pics). I haven’t run into display issues yet like Stuart described.

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
I think the thumbnail problem I had could be easily cured in the CSS, it was just that I was a bit fed up by then. I believe the problem has been mentioned to them so it may have been cured. I’ll give it another week or so then try it again. I have to say it did look very good and was pretty easy. If they’ve improved the config then it should be even easier now.

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
Well I had another go with the latest revision of Zenphoto and it’s working very nicely thank you. I still had the problem with the thumbnail page but that is because I have it set in the config to sixe thumbs to a specific longest side dimension. I didn’t fancy the idea of cropped thumbs. Anyway a quick addition of “height” to the appropriate div fixed it. It does seem very smooth and being able to edit on the fly is a nice bonus. I must admit that it took a while to bombsite the style and there is probably the odd bit of fiddling to do but if you want to see it in action…..

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
thebombsite, it looks nice. I didn’t realize that there was another release (0.9b) out. I’m working on integrating it into my site also (through themes only).
If anyone can figure out how to include it, though, (so that the header and footer are from TXP not hardcoded into the styles) that would be awesome.

Hmmm, I did toy with config.php and modified the rewrite base in .htaccess, still was unable to make it work on TXD, while it worked local… strange. Frankly, as I said it’s really more of an alpha to me. But yeah, worth following up….

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
Yes I think it could still be considered as Alpha though as I say, the latest version seemed to work a lot better than the first one I tried. I don’t know if your problems are TXD specific. Does seem strange. I had a quick look at your PixelPost suggestion, and as someone else said earlier, I would call that photoblog software rather than a simple album viewer. I think it’s the thumbnail pages that make the difference. I didn’t see any with PixelPost unless I missed something. Wouldn’t be the first time. ;)

Re: ZenPhoto AJAX photo gallery
Here is a sample gallery that I am working on for a client, if you’re trying to get a feel for what zenphoto can do. It probably took me about 15-20 minutes to get the whole thing set up, and that included ftp’ing the images. I just stuck with the default layout. I’m very interested in figuring out a way to get either zenphoto or the upcoming photostack integrated with textpattern…
