"View Site" shouldn't open in a new window
I think View Site in the Textpattern admin shouldn’t open in a new window. Why not let it be up to the user?

This is a very small thing, surely and doesn’t require an option. If you want to open it in the same window, go ahead and type your url in the address, it really shouldn’t be too difficult.

I totally agree with Krisekhaira. It’s one thing that has been annoying me the past two years.

I, too, am of the opinion that no web site should decide when to open a page in a new window. My web browser is perfectly capable of doing that if I so choose.
Of course, my web browser can also rewrite these links so they always open in the current window/tab, so I don’t really care what the admin interface defaults to.
Edit: I see I’ve found a textile bug.

If there is a real need, you should work on it yourself, or atleast how it would work.

Well we can add another preference to the admin pane. A radio button perhaps. I think the ‘how it would work’ is trivial for this request.
That said, I should probably patch this myself.

Re: "View Site" shouldn't open in a new window
Adding a preference is the fence-sitting, committee-designed, non-decision escape route. It’s passive-aggressive UI design: I don’t want to take responsibility, so I’ll blame the user.
Ok, so I’m exaggerating, but only a little. Besides, a preference applies globally to all users of a site.

I like the way you think Alex!
Since 1994, I’ve always used “_blank” on my links. My site, my rules. Even if you’re on my home page. You click “Home” you’re looking at the same page in a different window. That’s why I record IP addresses on contact forms. So that if someone complains, I know what range to deny in the .htaccess.
Actually I think that a link opening in a new window is the height of convinience. Thank you Textpattern developers!
Here’s an idea. Someone should develop a right click menu item that reads “Open this link in this window.”
Did anyone notice this thread was five months old?

I would agree that under normal circumstances you shouldn’t force a new window on your visitors however, this has nothing to do with visitors unless you are letting them into your admin. Having the site tab open as a new window (or tab in my case) is extremely handy for making mods to the site layout as you can see both the site and the code and for my own part I would rather it stayed as it is unless some kind of “option” can be included.
As this tab is inside TXP I don’t think normal Web rules HAVE to be applied.

Re: "View Site" shouldn't open in a new window
It’s easier to open any link in a new tab or new window than to open a _blank link in the same window.
That alone should answer this issue.

I wish the “View Site” button did open a new tab/window.
/me uses Camino.

Then use the Camino tool (command, button, whatever) to do it. Don’t impose on 100% of others users who may disagree with you on that.
