Plugin Request: Dropcaps
I would like to request for a plugin which turns the first ‘n’ characters of <code><txp:body /></code>, <code><txp:excerpt /></code> or <code><txp:title /></code> into a <a href=“http://www.citrusmoon.net/dropcaps.html”>dropcap</a>. Can somebody help?

Patrick, thanx for the reply. Yes the only problem is that IE doesnt like it. Most of my audiences use IE. Is there a CSS hack to make this work in IE?

Re: Plugin Request: Dropcaps
Alicson. IE7 is still in beta. I agree with you it does work in ie7. But my target audience use ie5, ie6 max. :) I know its kinda dumb but I cannot do much about it. I’m planning to put up get Firfox buttons all over my website. Its gonna take time before they realise the presence of the button :) I need to find a solution somehow.
I found an <A href=“http://www.pmachine.com/plugins/php-text-format/”>Expression Engine plugin</a> which does something close to what I wanna achieve. Can anyone have a look and let me know?

Re: Plugin Request: Dropcaps
I know also only IE7 (from Dean Edwards) which helps in IE (for now).
I dropped the approach with spantags around the first letter mainly because it is, aehem, semantical nonsense. And I am a little bit over-strict there. For an searchengine or an dumb parser it could look like “F” and “irst” if the first word would be “first”. So i dropped it for the css-stuff. That this do not work in all browsers is only a small annoyance. In 10 years it will work and textpattern seems to live that long g

Re: Plugin Request: Dropcaps
Wow. How the hell did I miss this. <a href=“http://dean.edwards.name/IE7/”>IE7</a> looks great. I’ll have a go at it. :)
@Alicson: That was so dumb of me :) I had download Internet Explorer beta from <a href=“http://www.9down.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=5259”>here</a> only 2 days back. ;) I thought you were talking about ie7 as in Internet Explorer 7. :)
@graumeister: Patrick, I cannot afford to wait for 10 years :) I may be dead by the time Microsoft does something about it :):)
Edit: Thanx for the tip Alicson. I have posted it <a href=“http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=10400”>here</a> for awareness.

Re: Plugin Request: Dropcaps
np. wish there were a more perfect solution to the barrel of issues that is Internet Explorer, but aside from CSS hacks (which of course do not acheive everything), the IE7 scripts is the best solution attempt i’ve found..
