File authors?

Not sure if I missed it in the most svn updates. Do files now have an author ownership like the images do? If not, could that be squeezed in before the next release? That would be excellent!

Re: File authors?

I made some minor source code modifications to the most recent pre-4.0.4 svn version to obtain an author field for files and adding the author column to the file list.

I also made it so that for the priv not-“admin.list” (currently staff writer and below) only the author’s own articles, images and files are listed along the lines of this thread (images and files too, and also catching the search box too). This avoids the problem that authors can delete all images and files, though only by dint that they are not displayed, not by any special new privileges.

Is this of any use? I have no idea how to submit diff-files, but I have marked the modifications in the files and can mail them.

This sounds like a very good step for txp. Hope that the developers include your code

Re: File authors?

In the meantime, I worked out how to make the diff-files and sent them to the dev-list.

Re: File authors?

Is there a way where authors can see/use images/files in their articles (if admin gives them that right) but not delete them? (especially if those were not uploaded by them)

Re: File authors?

I guess you mean images uploaded by others. No, I haven’t done that. At the moment there are just allowed/disallowed privileges for the file tab and the images tab. I imagine what you mention would need new privileges for images and files along the lines of those that exist for articles, e.g. image.edit/image.edit.own and image.delete/image.delete.own.

They way I did it, each author has their own txp-backend, e.g. an articles area and their own image and file repository, but not a common image bank.

Re: File authors?

Jakob — when did you send in this patch? I’m not seeing anything on the txp-dev list!

Sure other folks besides myself would love to have this in core, along with the aforementioned .delete/.delete.own expansions

Re: File authors?

on 15th September as posted above, but that doesn’t guarantee it will be included. Who knows (?!), maybe someday it will be integrated. In the meantime, you have mail.

Re: File authors?

Looks like that patch never reached txp-dev. You may want to try sending it again.

Re: File authors?

Thanks ruud for the heads-up. I got an automated reply back saying “Your message to txp-dev awaits moderator approval” with reason “Post by non-member to a members-only list”* (I’m not a member of the list) so I’ve sent it again. Maybe that’s the reason. If it still does not work, let me know and I’ll send it to someone (zem, sencer, mary?) directly.

*same with repeat submission too, of course

Subscribing is fast and easy and it doesn’t even cost anything! Seriously – how are we supposed to discuss a patch with yo, if you are not on the list. The list is not a truck, that you just dump something on, it’s a series of place for discussion.

Of course, I never regarded it as such – I also never saw myself as a developer but just happened to have a contribution to make. My apologies, I’ll subscribe.
