Phew. So at least there’s a workaround. That’s similar to 4.8.8 then, which is kinda good in terms of consistency (less boat rocking for existing tags) but more verbose than I would like.
There has to be some middle ground approach somehow which satisfies both goals of allowing valueless widths and heights to output the stored image dimensions, but ignore the stored information if the attribute is not provided.
Ideas welcome.

I reverted the above mentioned changeset does fix the problem with that more complex srcset above. The single image code:
- with valueless
height: no image displayed, htmlheighthas the intrinsic height (DB value) - without the
height: no htmlheightattribute added. - height=‘0’: no
heightattribute added.
(daydreaming) Me would love to see a magic solution were the width and height attributes reflect the dimensions of the thumbnail actually used.I thought theguardian.com did that but that does not appear to be the case

Firstly, many thanks for all the work that has been carried out for this release. Also, season greetings and wishing for a more peaceful 2026.
In the download page, under the Upgrading heading:
Replace the three files in your main installation directory (index.php, css.php and .htaccess) and everything in your /textpattern/ directory (and the /rpc/ directory if you utilise RPC features), except /textpattern/config.php, with the corresponding files in the current release distribution.
As far as I can see the htaccess is the same as it was before. Am I missing something?

Those are generic instructions. .htaccess hasn’t changed so ignore it if you like.

Thanks! Maybe we should take htaccess out of the generic instructions as some might replace their document which may include rules important for their site.

The same warning applies to /textpattern/admin-themes/ – users could have custom themes, custom stylesheets or custom scripts in there. Potentially blowing away /textpattern/plugins/ is also tricky (plugins will be added again after log in, but users could have uninstalled plugins left for eventual later use).

True. It’s already complicated to describe, and (pretty much) the only people affected are Transmit users because that defaults to Replace instead of Merge.
If we make the instructions more explicit in this regard (using “merge” instead of “replace”) then I think we’re covered, and it’s simpler to read than explaining not to destroy any customised stuff.

I’ve upgraded to 4.9.0. Very much appreciate the hard work and dedication that went into this. I’ve renewed my monthly GitHub contribution.
Two things I’ve noticed this morning:
- With Admin-side theme Hive, on Presentation > Pages for example, the listing of all pages has moved from the left sidebar to the right sidebar. Wasn’t expecting this. Suspect RTFM applies to me and I’ve just not paid attention to the development discussion.
- I wanted to check an old style that I’m sure I was able to see in 4.8 but when I select that style in the Theme dropdown field, it immediately changes to ‘Invalid argument’. Others of my previous styles are selectable. How can I troubleshoot this?

That’s by design to mimic the Write panel.

That’s odd. Do you mean when assigning styles on the Sections panel? Hmm.
I wonder if it’s theme related? Do you see any error messages if you put the site in debugging mode? Anything in the html source or the browser Inspector that might give us a clue?

Try switching theme on the pages/forms/styles panel and saving any asset to “store” the current theme, then try again from the Sections panel. Not sure why it wouldn’t have your pref stored for the current theme in use.
