Yes, this is a bone of contention with Textpattern and something that is on the list to fix one day. Sorry for the hassle.
And thank you for the info on your site setup. If there’s any way we can work together to help ease the transition of this site, we’re more than willing to tweak the code to make it easier for more sites to integrate with external APIs and services. There’s a small window of opportunity before Txp 4.9 comes out later this year if there’s anything you can think of that would help and make Textpattern more flexible.
