Favicons can be copied/pasted so some sites may use them for click-bait and to subvert the authenticity of results.

Hmm. DuckDuckGo has displayed the site favicon for a while. on desktop views at least. Personally, I don’t pay any attention to it.

I can see how that is a problem for certain types of search queries though. Particularly on mobile devices, the icon may end up being displayed prominently. And with a combination of Google obsession with hiding the (real) URL and the shoddy design patterns. there is a recipe for manipulation.


Where is that emoji for a solar powered submarine when you need it ?

To me it’s just something to watch out for. Google might not display results from sites without a favicon before long. To make us conform to their (secret) agenda?
