Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.7

OK, I’ve finished the two language files, should be 100% after your approvals.
Thanks for all your help, Phil (and Stef)!

Great! Thanks Uli, I’ve brought your translations into the Textpattern 4.7 release now.

Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.7

I’ve just installed the curent Nightly (ca35d2b55fd5aff59013dac0bcdaeaa3) and find a spelling mistake inside the article page “What do you want to do next”: The tag <txp:text item="links" /> (in use on pages Archive and Default) is displayed literally on the front page, like the contents inside the item parameter, which results in an orthographic fault, links with a small “l”. Correcting the item parameter displays the correct letter, “L”. So it seems like there’s no translation of that term in the German textpack, though there’s a correct string, Links. Hopefully you can make sense of it all and correct.

Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.7

Ah, I just see: that string is for admin-side:tab_link. There’s another one for tag:links, so there’s obviously no entry in the textpack. Huhh? 40+ languages and no one notices? Not really! What’s up here?

It’s not that. We’ve changed the way strings are loaded to (hopefully) be more memory efficient. Instead of loading them all, we’re now only loading the ones that are needed.

During the reshuffle we may have missed one or two, or put some in the wrong group. Seems like links is required in the [common] group instead of just in the [tag] group, so it can be accessed on the front side as well as the admin side. We’ll need to move it. Thanks for spotting this.

Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.7

Just a few more strings added to the Textpacks for 4.7 release (relating to improvements Jakob has very kindly supplied for multi-site installations). If translators can do their thing on those – that would be great!

http://translate.textpattern.io/

If any users speak any of the following languages (listed in no particular order), we would love for their Textpacks to get some additional translations:

  • Danish
  • Thai
  • Arabic
  • Urdu
  • Hindi
  • Khmer
  • Welsh

Thanks everybody!

Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.7

Done.

These four new strings are diagnostics strings, and I’ve always wanted to say something about translated diagnostics strings (or have I done so, already? Hm …)

Anyway, I think diagnostics strings should remain in English, for every language. They’re meant for posting in the forum, the forum language is English, all people helping in the troubleshooting forum understand English. I for one have trouble dealing with languages other than Latin based ones, and even reading these is hampered compared to English. What do others think?

I’d be inclined to agree with you, and especially for those three new phrases.
